In this article, we propose the use of the mean chart to control multivariate processes. The basic idea is to control the mean vector of bivariate (X, Y) and trivariate (X, Y, Z) processes by alternating the charting statistic of the Shewhart chart. If the mean of X observations was the charting statistic to obtain the current sample point, then the mean of Y observations will be the charting statistic to obtain the next sample point (for the trivariate case, the mean of Z observations will be the charting statistic to obtain the sample point subsequent to the next one). As a Shewhart chart, the signal is given anytime a sample point is plotted beyond the control limits, independent of the charting statistic in use. A fair comparison between the proposed chart and the Hotelling chart is based on an equal number of measurements per sample. The Shewhart chart with alternated charting statistic (ACS) always outperforms the Hotelling chart, except for specific types of disturbances in quality characteristics highly correlated (ρ = 0.7). The ACS chart is substantially easier to operate and faster than the Hotelling chart in signaling changes in the mean vector of bivariate and trivariate processes. Even with fewer measurements per sample, the trivariate ACS chart outperforms the Hotelling chart.  相似文献

Inspired by the mussel byssus adhesiveness, a highly hydrated polymeric structure is designed to combine, for the first time, a set of interesting features for load‐bearing purposes. These characteristics include: i) a compressive strength and stiffness in the MPa range, ii) toughness and the ability to recover it upon successive cyclic loading, iii) the ability to quickly self‐heal upon rupture, iv) the possibility of administration through minimally invasive techniques, such as by injection, v) the swelling ratio being adjusted to space‐filling applications, and vi) cytocompatibility. Owing to these characteristics and the mild conditions employed, the encapsulation of very unstable and sensitive cargoes is possible, highlighting their potential to researchers in the biomedical field for the repair of load‐bearing soft tissues, or to be used as an encapsulation platform for a variety of biological applications such as disease models for drug screening and therapies in a more realistic mechanical environment. Moreover, given the simplicity of this methodology and the enhanced mechanical performance, this strategy can be expanded to applications in other fields, such as agriculture and electronics. As such, it is anticipated that the proposed strategy will constitute a new, versatile, and cost‐effective tool to produce engineered polymeric structures for both science and technology.  相似文献

The use of reinforced polymers as cores of transmission cables can provide significant advantages compared to traditional steel cores, such as high tensile strength, low thermal expansion coefficients, and low sag between towers. This work evaluates the applicability of pultruded rods consisting of phenol–formaldehyde resin reinforced with carbon fiber as cores of transmission cables. In this work, the samples were divided into three groups: samples without aging, and samples UV and thermally aged. At first, a dynamic mechanical analysis was performed on samples without aging in order to determine the viscoelastic properties of the material based on the application to see if it would be compatible. In addition to this test, tensile strength and Young's modulus were determined for the three groups. Since the composite cores are susceptible to creep in high temperatures, the applicability must be below the glass transition temperature. Regarding creep behavior, results showed that at a reference temperature of 100 °C, the stress level necessary to cause failure after 50 years was 89% of the ultimate strength. The results of tensile tests were favorable for application of the pultruded system as transmission cables cores and the accelerated aging affected positively in these composites.

The topotactic reduction of La0.75Ba0.10Sr0.15FeO2.875 with titanium metal leads to a new isostructural material of the composition La0.75Ba0.10Sr0.15FeO2.875-δ (δ?=?0.375 and 0.50). XRD analysis of phases confirms that the obtained compound adopts a brownmillerite-type structure. A slight distorted monoclinic P2/m was found to describe the crystal structure. The transport properties have been investigated by current–voltage (I–V). The electric and dielectric measurements were carried out covering a wide range of temperature (300–600 K). Our materials display semiconducting properties as well as mixed ionic and electronic conductivity. At high temperatures, the activation energy values proved to be around 907–630 meV, which refers basically to oxygen vacancies conduction. The analysis of dielectric properties and dielectric losses (ε’, tanδ) of both compounds vs temperature at different frequencies demonstrates two relaxer attitudes. A low dielectric loss and low electrical conductance were displayed. Relying upon these values, these materials stand for perfect candidates for micro-electronics devices.

The development of extracellular matrix mimetics that imitate niche stem cell microenvironments and support cell growth for technological applications is intensely pursued. Specifically, mimetics are sought that can enact control over the self‐renewal and directed differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) for clinical use. Despite considerable progress in the field, a major impediment to the clinical translation of hPSCs is the difficulty and high cost of large‐scale cell production under xeno‐free culture conditions using current matrices. Here, a bioactive, recombinant, protein‐based polymer, termed ZTFn, is presented that closely mimics human plasma fibronectin and serves as an economical, xeno‐free, biodegradable, and functionally adaptable cell substrate. The ZTFn substrate supports with high performance the propagation and long‐term self‐renewal of human embryonic stem cells while preserving their pluripotency. The ZTFn polymer can, therefore, be proposed as an efficient and affordable replacement for fibronectin in clinical grade cell culturing. Further, it can be postulated that the ZT polymer has significant engineering potential for further orthogonal functionalization in complex cell applications.  相似文献

k-nearest neighbor (k-NN) queries are well-known and widely used in a plethora of applications. However, in the original definition of k-NN queries there is no concern regarding diversity of the answer set with respect to the user’s interests. For instance, travelers may be looking for touristic sites that are close to where they are, but that would also lead them to see different parts of the city. Likewise, if one is looking for restaurants close by, it may be more interesting to learn about restaurants of different categories or ethnicities which are nonetheless relatively close. The interesting novel aspect of this type of query is that there are two competing criteria to be optimized: closeness and diversity. We propose two approaches that leverage the notion of linear skyline queries in order to find the k diverse nearest neighbors within a radius r from a given query point, or (k, r)-DNNs for short. Our proposed approaches return a relatively small set containing all optimal solutions for any linear combination of the weights a user could give to the two competing criteria, and we consider three different notions of diversity: spatial, categorical and angular. Our experiments, varying a number of parameters and exploring synthetic and real datasets, in both Euclidean space and road networks, respectively, show that our approaches are several orders of magnitude faster than a straightforward approach.  相似文献

This study done at the Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) explored how the VTS operators (VTSOs) communicated with ships and other actors in the maritime sociotechnical system and how decisions were made with regard to assisting traffic in maintaining safe passage in port areas, where most vessel movements are seen and accidents occur. The fieldwork was done during four independent visits to a VTS centre under the Swedish Maritime Authority, with a total sample of six VTSOs and one VTS instructor. The qualitative data were sorted and coded using a grounded theory approach. The data pointed at non-technical information processing and communication factors that play a role in decision-making and ultimately in safety. During protocol operations at the VTS, these factors influenced how VTSOs judged the skills of the vessels’ bridge teams, and how they approached them. This is a time where much effort is being put into upgrading technological systems, and these will have the power to change the ways in which the maritime network obtains and processes information, as well as how they can communicate with each other. The further development of technological systems, work protocols and training programmes can benefit from taking the soft aspects of communication and the needs of the operators and their tasks into account for the enhancement of safety.  相似文献
